Property description

Business consists of 3 farms totalling 330 hectares (2 adjacent totalling 330 hectares), approximately 1700 sq. m. of built infrastructure, a herd of about 260 Holstein cattle, a 16 point tandem milking parlour with automatic bulk feed system, 9000 litre milk cooling and holding tanks and all the farming equipment required to plant animal feed for the herd. The dairy parlour can milk up to 450+ twice daily - therefore plenty of scopes exists for expansion.
The farm’s water resources have kept the business going during the worst 3 year drought (2013 to 2016) since year 1904. Water is sourced from either 3 boreholes, a stream which runs through the farm for most of the year and from which water is diverted into a large dam, and two windmills – one on Daphne and the other on Brakpan. The latter provides most of the water for dairy parlour cleaning requirements.
The overall feed system is focused on 238 hectares of planted pastures including erogrostis, radish and oats, and 206 hectares natural grazing. Cows in milk receive a pelletized feed while in the dairy parlour. A large investment has been made in planting cattle feed and we expect a surplus to be carried forward into 2019 winter
The business has the potential to grow production to 6750 litres per day. The milk is sold in bulk to local and Gauteng buyers.
The premises is secure, it is close to a main road (the R70), and most of the staff have been employed for 12+ years.
The current farm manager, is an experienced dairy farmer who is currently mentoring black farmers on behalf of VKB and Land Affairs on land either owned or leased by them. In total he manages about 5000 ha.
Financial and production records going back 9 to 10 years are available.
The beautiful location offers additional income potential from paying guests and recent geological testing has revealed the existence of significant uranium and molybdenum deposits in the immediate vicinity of the farms.
The dairy industry’s own statistics confirm a growing national dependence on imported dairy produce and the maize price will likely stay low for the foreseeable future, thereby reducing feed costs.
Agricultural land value in the region has grown by up to 10% per annum. This is an excellent time to invest in milk production.
